Choosing a hotel in Pahalgam
Pahalgam is long and narrow, stretched along the Lidder river. Hotels near the main market are the most convenient for an evening walk and for picking up the local taxis that go to Aru, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari, because private cabs from Srinagar cannot drive to those valleys. Stays further up the river are quieter and closer to the pine forest, but you rely on your hotel or taxi for every trip into town.
River-facing rooms are worth asking for. The sound of the Lidder at night is one of the reasons people remember Pahalgam, and several of our hotels, including Hotel Heevan and the Welcomhotel Pine N Peak, sit right beside it. For families, the cottages give more space and a small lawn; for couples, the resorts near the golf course are calmer.
Two nights is the right length for most trips: one day for the valleys by local taxi and one easy morning by the river.

Some are. Snow falls in town from December to February, and we book only hotels that stay open with room heating. Tell us your dates and we check which ones are running.
