Hotels in Gulmarg

Gulmarg is a small meadow town at about 2,730 m, and almost every hotel sits within a short drive of the Gondola base. These are the Gulmarg stays we book, from 3 star hotels that work well for a night or two to The Khyber beside the Gondola.

Choosing a hotel in Gulmarg

Gulmarg has no town centre to speak of. Hotels are spread around the meadow and along the road towards the Gondola, so a shorter walk to the cable car is the main thing you pay extra for. In summer that matters less, because the meadow is easy to cross on foot or by pony. In winter it matters a lot: snow makes every walk slower, and roads inside Gulmarg are often cleared only once a day.

Heating is the second thing to check. Nights fall well below freezing from December to February, and older buildings can be draughty. Every Gulmarg hotel we book for winter has room heating and hot water, and we tell you whether it is central heating, electric heaters or a bukhari wood stove.

Most travellers spend one or two nights here. One night is enough for the Gondola and the meadow walks; two nights give you a spare morning if the upper Gondola phase is closed by wind or fresh snow.
